Will the evaluation be carried out remotely?
As a rule, remote learning should be considered the predominant one, but there will be curricular units with face-to-face evaluation in the Normal Exam Season and the Appeal Season. These exceptions will be communicated in due course.
In some cases, can the assessment include moments in the presence of students?
Yes, there is the possibility that the assessment will include moments in the presence of students, specifically in the Normal Exam Season and the Appeal Season, which will be communicated in due course.
Has the timetable of examinations changed?
Yes, the 1st semester Normal Exam Season will take place between the 8th and 19th of February and the respective Appeal Season from the 22nd of February to the 5th of March.
Have the Dissertations/Projects/Internships (2nd cycle) deadlines been revised?
Yes, the extension of the application for exams concerning the curricular units of the dissertation, project or internship type of the study cycles leading to Master’s degree and thesis of the study cycles leading to the Doctor degree, until 29th October 2021 (according to the calendar for the academic year of 2020/2021 approved by the Circular No. 15-REIT/2020 of 21st May). This extension applies to master’s and doctorate students who, having met the conditions to apply for tests in the academic year of 2019/2020, did not apply for it until 31/12/2020.
Have clinical teaching and internships continued?
Clinical teaching and internships, in particular clinical internships, should be maintained in person whenever possible.
Have laboratory activities changed?
The University of Aveiro is responsible for the essential aspects that must be preserved, in line with the “Recommendation to scientific and higher education institutions in the context of extraordinary measures of the state of emergency” of 21st January, namely: Laboratory and research activities whose maintenance is necessary.
Have the presentation and the evaluation of Dissertations/Projects/Reports of Internships (2nd cycle) changed?
The presentation and evaluation of dissertations, projects and internship reports and academic theses will still be able to take place and should be carried out by means of videoconferencing.
Who is responsible for confirming that the student has the appropriate equipment and technological means for the remote evaluation activities?
The teacher in charge of the curricular unit, in articulation with the Director of the Degree, should verify if the student has his own equipment and adequate technological means. They must also give a note of the deficiencies identified to apoio_EaD@ua.pt, assuming the principle that the University should, whenever possible and in duly proven situations, make it possible for the students to carry out the evaluation recurring to digital technologies.
Can the teacher request the display of an identification document to verify the identity of the students?
Yes, the teacher may, if he/she deems it necessary, verify the identity of the students who are taking the exams, by asking them to show their identification document to the camera, safeguarding the reproduction restrictions legally foreseen.
Can the teacher require the student to keep the camera on during the assessment?
Yes, during the exam, the teacher may require that the exam takes place including constant surveillance of the students, by means of a camera, guaranteeing that there will be no recording of the sessions.
Can the teacher define an answer time for individual questions or a set of questions?
Yes, testing is allowed with answer timing, as it is allowed by the Moodle platform, but answer times must be properly weighted.
Can the teacher present different assessment questions to each student or group of students?
Yes, the questions can be presented to students at random, and with different questions for different students.
What is the procedure for cases where it is not possible to identify and/or view the student on camera?
If it is not possible to identify the student during the evaluation test, the teacher may indicate another moment for the evaluation (Wednesday afternoons are also available) and, if he or she so wishes, change the type of evaluation, using other methods provided for in the Study Regulations of the University of Aveiro (REUA), such as oral tests or written assignments.
Are there any changes to the rules for paying tuition fees?
There are no changes to the amount of tuition fees, nor to the payment deadlines defined, except for the one resulting from the late beginning of the academic year. In case of difficulty in meeting the defined deadlines, students should contact the Academic Management Services, via e-mail academicos@ua.pt.
Has the calendar for applications to postgraduate courses changed?
Not so far, but there is an intention to review the calendars. The new calendar will be released in due course.

If I am assigned to a residence but I am not using my room due to the pandemic, will I have to pay for it until the end of the school year?
No. The duty of payment remains as long as the contract of accommodation is maintained. With the termination of the contract, the duty of payment and the right to accommodation cease, in which case the accommodation must be unoccupied (all property and belongings). The students who, due to exceptional conditions, cannot pay for accommodation, should contact the Social Services (SAS) directly for analysis and assessment of their situation.

Although in-person classes are suspended, can I use the library?
The requisition, collection and/or return of publications from the UA library network are done in person at the UA Library and can also be sent by post (shipping costs are supported by UA). To confirm the date of return for the loans, users must consult the personal space of the bibliographic catalogue by selecting the option “Sign In” (top right corner) and type the Universal User (UU) data.
The Media Library, the Domingos Cravo Library (ISCA-UA), the ESTGA and ESAN Library are closed. The literary works that are part of the documental fund of the libraries that are closed can be consulted and requested by appointment through the email sbidm-emprestimo@ua.pt.
The UA library (campus) will be open from Monday to Friday between 05h00 and 23h00; and on Saturdays and Sundays, between 05h00 and 13h00.
Are the Academic Management Services (AMS) open?

What precautions should I take when using technologies for remote learning?
The National Cybersecurity Centre, the Directorate General for Education and the National Data Protection Commission provide a set of guidelines to be considered when using technologies to support remote learning. Consult the guidelines.
